p_toad Posted September 2, 2020 Report Posted September 2, 2020 i haven't had this happen with any other similar hammers, so i called the company up today and they are going to send out a current "similar" model. I don't have the weight and the new ones don't have the metal on one end, but... HARO50, Gunny, FlGatorwood and 1 other 4 Quote
Gunny Posted September 2, 2020 Report Posted September 2, 2020 (edited) We see that type fail alot in automotive. Myself I stick with the tried and true wooden hammer, have several for different levels of persuasion. And of course a brass hammer for those type of jobs. Think the biggest ball peen I have is 48 oz. Edited September 3, 2020 by Gunny FlGatorwood, Cal, aaronc and 1 other 4 Quote
p_toad Posted September 3, 2020 Author Report Posted September 3, 2020 yeah, that pittsburg one there is one of the 1, 2, 3 lb copper series they used to sell. They had a similar brass set in 1, 2, 3 lb sizes. also have the rubber and poly types (and probably lead and aluminium around too). sometimes you need to hit something without leaving obvious marks.... Popular Post Gunny Posted September 3, 2020 Popular Post Report Posted September 3, 2020 I have taken all the plastic off some of those and made a wooden handle for it. Then epoxied in place. Even replaced the soft side head with a piece of hard maple. neighbor saw them and wiped out cash, oh yeah gone baby!! HARO50, FlGatorwood, Cal and 2 others 4 1 Quote

p_toad Posted October 2, 2020 Author Report Posted October 2, 2020 (edited) updated today....this just arrived in the mail. Stanley replaced the one going bad. They apparently don't make the type with the metal head on one side any more. and this was the closest thing i could find in their online catalog when i was talking to one of their call center folks. Cal Posted October 3, 2020 Report Posted October 3, 2020 I am impressed that they actually sent you out a new hammer! Good on you for making the call and getting them to do it HARO50 and Gunny 2 Quote
p_toad Posted October 4, 2020 Author Report Posted October 4, 2020 I did some research on the web which showed the compo type hammers cracking from other vendors and being replaced and checked out Stanley's web site about their tool warranty and tried to fill out the web site "thing" but it wasn't working so i called the 800 number one day and the lady there was very helpful. Took it about 3 weeks to get here, but with covid i'm not overly surprised. A "tip of the hat" to Stanley for backing up their tools. HARO50, Cal and Gunny 3 Quote
