August 27, 20205 yr I'd say the failures are in your glue joints. Both wood joints and the wood to brass tube joints. How old is the CA glue? It does have a shelf life but that can be extended by keeping cold (I store my in the fridge). I really think you will have better luck with TiteBond for the wood and then fresh, thick CA to glue the tubes in place.

August 27, 20205 yr Author I think you guys were right too many sharp edges on that. Not only that I had been using the rougher with a NON negative rake on it. How ever the glue is still fresh its not even 3 weeks old as of yet. I did another set of pen barrels with out doing any lamination and they came out JUST fine no hard chip outs or anything. I wound up using a piece that I very first practiced on when I first got the lathe. I think maybe I had just been getting a bit too confident with the lamination and not putting more of a round on the sides of the blanks.
August 28, 20205 yr Andrew, watching your videos it looks like you are riding your rougher up along the bevel of your tool rest, instead of level across the top of the tool rest. EWT recommends a level position, and even make a bubble level to put on the square bar of the tool to keep it level. Is it possible this might be contributing to some of your catches?
August 28, 20205 yr Author I don't catch as much and yea it wasn't level due to the fact that there was some gunk stuck to the tool rest so I took a bit of sand paper and sanded down the high spots again to make it smooth so no issues keeping it level now. So no more catches. Well catches here and there but not as sever. Edited August 28, 20205 yr by AndrewB
