AAW Article Discussing Carbide Cutter Rake

Featured Replies

@Jim from Easy Wood Tools provided this article just published in the American Association of Woodturners "Woodturning Fundamentals" August issue. It is co-authored by Chris Caliendo from Easy Wood Tools.

What is Negative Rake by Chris Caliendo.pdf

The publication also has an extensive compare/contrast article on carbide turning tools- including Easy Wood Tools.

Thanks Lew!

Very informative, think I’m gonna print that one and post it in the shop.

It seems from the first article, that the carbide tools are basically scrapers however, they can be rather aggressive.  Got to get busy and play with this new set that I was so graciously given.  I did try the rougher for a few minutes and I like it, but I will be testing each soon.  Thank you for the articles, Jim and Lew.  This is good information.

Also, thanks for the second article. I was considering trying tips from another company to see how they compared, but after reading the second article, I think I will stay with the company who made the tools as their tips should fit perfectly each time.  Will be investigating more as I think I need to have a supply of cutters on hand for this Christmas season.  I have lots of turning lined up.  Thanks, again, Jim for posting this neat information.
