August 21, 20205 yr Popular Post I added this photo on a thread already going on the turning forum, figgered i would post one here also. Thank you to everyone here and to all the sponsors! These beauties showed up yesterday!
August 21, 20205 yr Author John, if this needs to be relocated to turning, please by all means I have a Bionics faceshield recommended to me by some turners here, and I have a live center coming. I think I’m going to try to turn a couple of baseball bats for my first project (unless of course some of the more experienced turners here recommend otherwise).I have a couple of ash/maple billets on the way.
August 22, 20205 yr Artie, for beginners, I would try something small to start to get the feel of the machine and wood as well as the gouges. I would start with a piece of scrap that is about 2" X 2" and about 6 inches long. Then when you feel comfortable, use another piece of scrap to try the ball bats, but I don't think you have enough room on the Shopsmith to make a bat. I will need to measure. That's just how I would do it. Hope to see you playing soon.
August 22, 20205 yr Author Popular Post I just went on the SS website, apparently the maximum between centers is 37 inches. Maybe I’ll make little bats . Or toothpicks?
August 23, 20205 yr Still debating on whether or not to just buy the midsize set as well. LOL I like the easy start ones they are small and quite handy but I'm thinking I want the mid size as well for the larger projects.

I find him knowledgeable, and I like the sound of his voice. I like Nick, also, but the quality of his videos from the SS website is bad enough it gives me headaches if I try to watch too many.

Binge watching is not advised once you hit 6 decades, it's hard on old eyes!
