Assault on a disabled veteran

Featured Replies

In this crazy world, I try not to get worked up about the crazy stuff I see. However, I watched a video of a guy in Washington punch out a 72-year old disabled veteran for making a comment about his girlfriend not wearing a mask in the hotel lobby. The veteran was sitting down when the guy walked up and hit him 4 times!---breaking his jaw and damaging an eye. My OD green infantry blood and type A personality boiled at this. The police arrested him and charged him with assault. Insane!

That is my age and yes, I agree that this country has lost all respect for us older veterans.  And, many other traditional values.  I wear my hat proudly everywhere I go.  I am sometimes shocked that someone will come up and thank me for my service.  It is rather emotional.  Then there are too many who are like the abuser in the story.  We need to put the draft back in place.  There are many benefits to having served.  You grow up...and learn respect.

I agree. The draft should be re-started, and include women in it. Women can do any job that men can do, and they get the opportunity to serve their country and be first class citizens.

Some of us see such actions and act on our own code of ethics.  Using a particular skillset honed by time spent on the razors edge.  It is only then that these type of morons learn the sleeping dog is best left alone.  Oddly the news rarely reports such events.  I have a friend that got into it with a young punk. That punk walks with a limp, can't use his right hand to write, and can no longer have children.  That damage was inflicted with a cheap dinner fork.   His punk buddy would have helped him but was busy trying to figure out how to remove a butter knife that had his hand impaled to the table.    :D

What you think I was going to let my friend have all the fun???

That is truly a sad story, Hat. Funny it didn't make the news when other stories about mistreated individuals become headlines.

Hat, you got a news link to this story? I'd like to copy paste this filth on every media news channel I can and let folks know who this piece of trash is. Take away the fact the man was a veteran, the fact he was disabled and 72 yrs old is horrific enough. The fact that he was 72 yrs old is horrific enough.

Don't ya just love how the media labels these criminals "alledged" attacker. Or how about "suspect", there's no suspect about it, that's the guy!

Unfortunately, by law, the man is the alleged attacker until he is proven guilty in a court of law. The evidence is obvious. If the media said the attacker, they could be sued for finding him guilty without a trial and with the right lawyer he might even get away with it. He has at least been arrested for the attack. It's good that there was a camera in the room.

Even though I am now an Old Fart, I always walk up and thank every veteran I see, and asking them if they are OK, shaking their hand. I tell them its OK to have bad memories and to openly talk about them. They are quite appreciative, especially their wives. :OldManSmiley:

I agree with you completely. There must be some legal factor involved, "innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." I think full identification and public exposure is especially important.

hat

I don’t agree with vigilanteism, nor taking the law into one’s own hand, But I STRONGLY agree with justice. Seems one can’t get justice the right way these days.

Al, you mean the media actually cares about accuracy and responsible reporting?

Not laughing at ya sir, just getting a laugh out of it. I get what you mean though. :)

I have found the media can be very biased and depending on which media you watch, it is biased in extreme opposites. The country is so torn apart today that I really have concerns for our future generations. It is your children's generation who will either make or break the future of this country. I see the stock market rising while the working people are struggling to live from week to week. That means the rich are getting richer and richer while the rest of us fall further and further behind. We pay taxes while the rich go tax free.Guess I'm one of the lucky ones, at my age I won't see what happens. Just hope my SS doesn't go broke. Worked over 50 years for that retirement. Sorry for the rant. You can delete it if you feel I've crossed any lines.

And nowadays with covid, they probably won't hold him for long and if he ever gets to trial, he won't spend time in jail (not while they're turning loose all manner of convicted criminals all over the country).  I'm very afraid i might see something like this one day and then i'll be the one arrested for taking out the trash.
