August 5, 20205 yr Popular Post I got an idea how to use this finish. It only hardens with an ultraviolet light or sunlight. My biggest problem with it was that it would harden and look lumpy. So I set up my drill to turn the piece while a ultraviolet was held below. I used clamps to regulate drill speed and hold the small ultraviolet light in place. It appeared to work well. I allowed to to slowly harden half way in the drill and took it out in the sunlight to complete hardening. While this concept is good, don't drop it in the grass. I did. Yes it got grass and other assorted stuff on it. I will let it harden and will take it back in and redo the whole process. I think this process hold promise, as long as I use sunlight to finalize the process (and don't drop it). It hardens much better in the sun than the battery powered one. To be continued
August 5, 20205 yr Author Disregard all the above. This product did NOT harden, even in the direct sunlight. It always has before and failed this time. Maybe it has a shelf life............I'm done with it.
August 6, 20205 yr It is still beautiful to me. Thanks for sharing great ideas. I like that slow turn on the portable drill. Maybe, if it had been on a table outside, it may have worked better, do you think? Anyway, Ron, the things you create fascinate me. Thank you.
August 6, 20205 yr Author Popular Post I made a big mistake......... When I used the ultraviolet finish, I got the plastic bottles mixed up. Instead of using the wood finish, I used the ultraviolet glue. Looked the same, went on the same, but sure didn't cure the same. It cured at a different wavelength than the finish. I put a drop of glue on my bench and used the proper UV light and it hardened instantly. Probably the first mistake i've ever made

On the other hand I am sure a good many of us have a story to tell along similar lines. or maybe never tell.
August 6, 20205 yr Author Popular Post I also made a neat discovery. The dark Walnut, when finished with this stuff, turns purple in natural outdoor light Inside, it looks like walnut until a light hits it and it seems to have a purple glow.
August 6, 20205 yr Author Popular Post Check this out. Same ornament. One picture inside with indoor lighting and the other outdoors. Kinda WOW. I decided not to touch the finish after I saw this. AS is looks good. Edited August 6, 20205 yr by Ron Altier

August 7, 20205 yr Well now that you have made that first mistake the rest can be perfect like this one.
