July 23, 20205 yr Popular Post I need more wood chisels like I need more skull ventilation but for some reason, they seem to follow me home pretty often. If they are decent or unique and reasonable, I adopt them. Today was no exception and these were all three. Bought the group for 5 bucks. They were decent and reasonable. The unique appeared when I did a little scrubbing. The maker mark on 3 of them is a diving airplane. Really a cool mark. The fourth is simply “Sweden”. A little research found all 4 are Swedish made so should be pretty good quality. Was going to flip these but now I’m not so sure.

I need to do some more reading. I haven’t found very much thus far except for a short paragraph on one site but didn’t try very hard last night.
July 23, 20205 yr Saab made bombers in the late '30s. Not sure about chisels, though. Here's a site I found. Diving airplane chisel.
July 23, 20205 yr Nice find! I have three Swedish chisels with the same handles, labeled "Eskilstuna", but mine have a shark instead of the plane. John
July 23, 20205 yr Nice find. I am the same way with chisels. I am surprised at hoe many manufacturers made chisels. I also like collecting awls. A big variety of them out there too. Never ran across the airplane insignia. Thanks for sharing.

This is about all I can find as well. I know the Swedish Berg Chisels with the shark logo have some following. These are very similar. I need to sharpen them up and give them a go. I understand the Eskilstuna chisel are good quality.

John It seems the Eskilstuna chisel makers were very consistent in using similar handles. In my reading last night, it seems most of them were very similar with slight difference in knurling of the brass rings arEthe chisel tang being less consistent. Makes me wonder, though only speculation, if there may have been a handle maker supplying several tool makers? Just my random thoughts.

July 24, 20205 yr They make planes and cars and I thought that they made some hand tools, but my memory is going? gone? Who knows?
