July 10, 20206 yr Popular Post Good Friday morning everyone! Hope all of you are doing well. I've got to get out and check the yard for damage, we had some severe thunderstorms come through S.E. WI. last evening, and through the night. It's been too Hazy, Hot, & Humid through the week for getting a whole lot done. It's supposed to be a bit cooler until mid week when the temps will get back into the 90's. Hopefully I can get my bench legs painted this weekend. So...What's on your weekend agenda?
July 10, 20206 yr Popular Post I had applied some marine spar varnish to my wife's refurbed redwood glider. The first 2 coats were brushed on while I had it disassembled. Now it's dry enough to re assemble (which i did) but not dry enough to smooth it out by sanding. Waiting for that, then i spray on 2 more coats. Other than that, 'm just trying to keep the veggies and landscapes plants alive by watering.
July 10, 20206 yr Popular Post Today, Friday, gotta reset the cutters on the Shelix head in the planer. Been getting indications that a couple aren't playing nice. Not a difficult job but, My Gawd is it tedious! Hope to get it done and back to planing walnut by supper.
July 10, 20206 yr Popular Post Have completed front face on this cabinet. Now it needs to get into finishing room for paint. Drawer front are in glue up at the moment.
July 11, 20206 yr Spent almost all day watching AAW Virtual Symposium. Got into the shop about 4 and had time to finish a ornament and turn a mallet.
July 11, 20206 yr Paint, paint, paint. My moulding order was delivered Wednesday PM. Some got painted Thursday, and 3 were modified Thurs PM. The rest of them were painted yesterday. I need to make a run to Big Blue this morning for a bucket of mud, I hope to roll the texture on the MBR ceiling today. I also need to mow the lawn - again. And, I need to file taxes in the next couple of days too Edited July 11, 20206 yr by Cal
July 11, 20206 yr Popular Post Finally got these finished. I made a drying rack of a piece of wood and some screws. There are 16 pens made from a piece of elm that MountainGuardian sent to me. As quickly as I ascertain that his mailing address remains the same, they will be in the mail. He requested a couple bigger ones for his fingers, so you will see a couple with onion like holder. I learned from a fellow down the street that he can push down on this pen without it slipping through his hand. Also, there are a few that are a bit thicker so it will be easier to grasp. Neat wood and easy to turn. Almost as nice to turn as mahogany. These are slimline PSI pens. Easy to do even on a Shopsmith. Edited July 11, 20206 yr by FlGatorwood

July 13, 20206 yr Is that a new bee box Keith? Most all of them I've seen are white, but maybe yours are painted a darker color for winter warmth? If that's what it is of course...

July 18, 20205 yr Popular Post solar wax melter. Take the cappings (the parts you cut off to open the cells) from extracting honey. Put them in some cheesecloth for a few days to drain off most of the residual honey. Then put the wax in a pan in the top. It melts and drips through holes into a second pan where you get a brick of beeswax.
July 18, 20205 yr Thank, Gene and Cal. Been busy and I can't keep up with all the interesting posts. I just try when I can.
July 19, 20205 yr Popular Post The day is still young - and I've already learned something! This will give me another topic to talk about the next trip to the farmers market where I buy honey.
