July 3, 20206 yr Popular Post Happy 4th of July weekend! Not much going on around here in S.E. Wisconsin. We're having a HHH (Hazy, Hot, & Humid) run of weather here, and that simply doesn't make for allowing getting much done. Too humid to paint, and I can't take being out in the direct Sun like I was once able to. Moneys also tight this month with property taxes being due. So I'm kind of at a standstill for the time being. We might fire up the grill for the 4th but don't really have plans to go anywhere. So...What's on your 4th of July weekend agenda?
July 3, 20206 yr HHH is the name of the game here during the summer. The last few days we have been getting a brief PM shower or thunderstorm. Those are good when they come in the early evening, cools things off and keeps cool; when they come in the early afternoon - it will cool off during the rain but afterwards the sun comes out and makes it feel like it is just boiling the water back out of the ground - very sticky and humid. But, we'll take whatever rain, whenever we can get it. I mowed the lawn Thursday, so I am good for the weekend. I hope to hear from the building supply that some moulding is in that I had ordered. If it's here I will be back on paint duty. If not, we are cleaning out the MBR to redo - paint and such. In addition to MBR it has served as the home office - there is a lot of junk in there to clean out!!! Taxes, likely be doing them next week. Income taxes are due on the 15th. I ran them through the computer back in March, seen the numbers and closed the books until now. Seems we owe the Feds and the State a sizeable chunk this year For the fourth, I think we are grilling out tonight and going to SIL's to cook out tomorrow
July 3, 20206 yr Popular Post We have a cinematographer coming to do a video walk through for a guy that's interested in the house. He's a trucker and can't get here in person. We gotta leave for 2 hours. There might be another in person showing tomorrow. Didn't really expect one on the 4th. We'll be at a little BBQ gathering around 17:00. It looks like today and tomorrow are about shot for shop work. Might get a few hours in, here and there.
July 3, 20206 yr Author Popular Post @Cal We sure know what you mean about the HHH weather. We've got that pond called Lake Michigan about 12 miles east of us, and when we get into the 80's we get dewpoints in the 60-70° range. Makes for some pretty sticky thick to breath air. Our lawn needs a mowing, but it will still be there when the dewpoint/humidity level drops. Hopefully soon. That reminds me I have to call the I.R.S. I sent the taxes out in March, and still have heard nothing about our small refund. The State return came back in amazingly only 3 weeks!
July 3, 20206 yr Popular Post Working on this cabinet. Spent alot if time prepping for assembly. Edge banding drawers
July 3, 20206 yr Popular Post Spending as much time as I can....sitting right in front of the A/C unit.....I do NOT do heat very well.....and getting above 80 degrees is not fun for me.....after having been "downed" by the heat a couple times ( they bring out the HUGE IV needles, then).....I'm staying inside and cool......taking a little vacation from the shop, too.
July 3, 20206 yr Popular Post Pecking away at another set of jewelry boxes for granddaughters. Using up some of that recycled walnut from church door. Also need to go to the parsonage and fix the base under a leaky sink (the wood part, not the plumbing part). Saturday will be honey harvest day. Should get about 60 lb out of one hive.
July 3, 20206 yr Popular Post Finished putting three sections of our salvaged picket fence I saved for covering what the SWMBO calls my junk of compost and firewood piles. Came in to shower and forgot to take the aides out and one now not working but still in warranty. Tomorrow hot dogs and then to shop for more work on bowls I want to get out of the way.

Do you do your own honey exctraction? How many hives do you have?

I have limited myself to 2 hives. That's enough work and enough honey for me. I don't know how some of the amateurs have 30 or 40 hives. I've been mentoring a neighbor the last 3 or so years. He's up to 4 now. And he is so slow and methodical, it takes nearly an hour to do one hive check. He takes extreme measures to ensure not even one bee is crushed or sitting in the wrong place. If he had 40, that's all he'd be able to do what with travel, set up and inspections. Another neighbor two doors down started last year he's up to 5 this year. I was thinking this afternoon, at the small church we attend, there are usually at most 10 men there. Five of use are beekeepers. Edited July 3, 20206 yr by kmealy
July 3, 20206 yr Popular Post Glad that you have bees. The clover in the front yard has been so good it smelled like clover honey and there aren't any bees around. spent some time back at the restore today - they're not open to the public on Fridays so it's a good time to work in there. didn't realize i was not drinking enough liquid until i got home and guzzled down a liter and a half of water and my ears stopped ringing (?). haven't seen swmbo for a week so we're good.
July 3, 20206 yr Popular Post Oh (handy hint), I switched to metric today. I had to divide 7 11/16" into 5 equal parts. It was a lot easier to do 195 mm/5 = 39 mm. Edited July 3, 20206 yr by kmealy
July 4, 20206 yr No real plans for the 4th. Still have some Roman candles from a couple years ago, so they will blow tomorrow night. Almost finished turning pens. Trying to get them finished and shipped. Mowed, trimmed and edged Thursday, worked on son's fiberglass skateboard. It is a hand painted picture of Rick and Morty, so I found some thin plexiglass to put on the bottom to protect the painting and keeping the flex. Will start a rocker for widow neighbor. Actually, I simply have to rebuild the back. Mainly, will be putting the slats back into the top and doweling the top back to the back posts. I hope I can get it all to work at the time it fits together. Other projects standing in line.
July 4, 20206 yr Popular Post No big plans for me, mainly stay out of the way and listen to be called to the table at meal times. I hate to miss those! My son has been over this week working on a smoker table and has the shop smelling all cedar like. I did finally walk out there to check his progress and answer a question or two. I haven’t been in the shop to work since my accident. my wife purchased a new to her ride Friday so we my get out and let the top down and take a little ride and let the wind blow! Other than smoking some chicken on the grill that’s about all the plans we’ve made! Happy a happy 4th, be safe!
July 4, 20206 yr Popular Post I will heading to family cabin in the Smokies for wife’s family reunion. I did some pork belly burnt ends. Enjoy your day everyone.
July 4, 20206 yr Popular Post A little shop time today. Then a small gathering for burgers, brats and wings.

That sounds fun. We love going to the Smokies. We have a friend that lets us use their cabin. It’s just off the bypass around Gatlinburg and not too far from Ski Mountain Road. Have a great time and watch for the bears!
July 4, 20206 yr Popular Post I was going to mow, but I remembered I am donating blood this morning, so that will probably be all I do today. Lately, I usually feel kind of wiped out after donating. Good excuse to sit in front of the fan and pig out afterwards. I managed to score some Top Saver, which apparently is no longer made, so working on my table saw top, and maybe also my jointer and band saw tops, will be my project for tomorrow. I can finally use my lathe again, so if I have time, I might fire it up also.

When we go there I just tell everyone else to do whatever I’m not leaving. Lol hope you had a good 4th.
