Kitchen cabinet for my son

I forward these design concepts to my son this evening.  The sketches are missing some detail, but there is enough detail to make a plan.  I’m waiting on my son for a decision (little does he know, his wife has already made his decision).  His wife likes the cabinet which has two pull-out shelves behind a door.   All of the cabinets have a trash can drawer, a large upper drawer, and locking casters.  Cabinet dimensions are 36” wide by 24” deep.  The cabinet will have a white varnish for a finish.  Danl

Are the colors accurate as maple panels with walnut stile and rail?  I see the construction is partial overlay.

What I am my spouse like as we good old all the base cabinets will be drawers only.  Then Doors on top.

Still a real nice design but some more detail may be necessary such as door build details, drawer build details and cabinet build details at to clue how to build them.  Many options exist for each of them.  A question can sketch up create and exploded view to show the construction details?

I am still trying to convince my spouse that I should build the next kitchen.

If I can use that tool to show her what I want it may be worth getting it.

My knees keep telling me the more pullouts, the better.

Just a suggestion from my kitchen designer days...Some people are reluctant to have a drawer with utensils, etc. above a trash receptacle.  An alternative is the trash cabinet with a full height door and a pullout for extra bags and the related items that are handy to have nearby.  But base full height doors can look odd if they aren't balanced.

FWIW, our island has the trash cabinet with pullout above on the right and the left has a pullout for our large stand mixer on the left.  And yes, I tend to obsess over symmetry.  (It's really garnet, not as pink as is appears)

The colors are not accurately depicted except for the interior of the cabinet.  The different wood species were selected to help show the construction of the different pieces.  The box will made from UV-birch ply, frames made from poplar, the panels will be made from MDF, and the top will be hard maple.  The cabinet will be sprayed with SW Sher-Wood Kem Aqua white.  The  construction will be a full overlay doors/drawer.

My son wanted one large drawer vs one or two smaller drawers above the doors.

Yes, you can have sketchup create whatever is needed for depiction/construction.  For this project, my son and his wife did not need all of the detail to allow them to select what they wanted me to build and I did not need all of the detail for the build either.  Doors and end panels will have M/T jointery.  The drawers will be made from baltic birch ply and have dovetail joinery using PC 4216 dovetail jig.  The trash drawer mechanism will be a purchased item.

I find the free version of sketchup adequate for my use.  There are times I which I had more design tools, but it is not worth the cost to purchase the Pro version.

Mostly I use a napkin.  On a rare occasion a piece of notebook paper. :JawDrop:

Going to borrow my Dad's favorite saying here.  "Memory is excellent.  Now the recall button, not so much."  :throbbinghead:
