April 9, 20206 yr I always thought this was what we called shrub oak but not so sure anymore. the middle has a deep orange red color with lighter tones around the outside. wood has deep reddish brown. thanks a head of time. I am thinking to make bird house from this piece but if anyone else has better idea I am receptive!
April 9, 20206 yr Popular Post No idea on the wood, but the idea of making a bird house out of the piece is really neat!

April 9, 20206 yr Not sure about this one. Does it get flowers on in the spring? Here's where I was looking- https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/find_a_plant/?plant_type__id=17

Late to the discussion here, but depending on how many knot holes there are in a piece, and how big they are, if you have any more, that might make an interesting way to frame some family pictures. Kind of in the same vein as a natural edge slab for a coffee table.
April 15, 20206 yr Author so here is the birdhouse I made. Nothing too cool. I wanted to keep it natural. The inside is just a base birdhouse with sticks added for natural effect. I have had a few interested tenets so far inspecting it.
April 15, 20206 yr Author Good idea postaltom but already moved ahead lol but will think about that next time. thanks for input

April 15, 20206 yr Author No door to back was opened so I could seal it from weather. I always make doors in birdhouses as birds will not use them if there is even old nest inside. Edited April 15, 20206 yr by Lissa Hall
