Guest Purpleheartguy
Hi all, I'm new here and thought I would say hi. I love woodworking and it is my "safe place" when I am starting to get overwhelmed by the world. I was wounded in iraq in 2004 and struggled with life for a long time until I bought a 30$ central machinery wood lathe. I could never hold down a job and could never sleep due to nightmares and pain. Someone suggested i get a hobby so, i bought a cheap lathe off ebay and fell in love with turning ever since. I'm no expert and i have minimal tools but, i create things and it gives me a sense of peace that i hadn't had in a long time. I look forward to learning from you all and hope to grow into a good woodworker through tips and tricks from you all. Like i said i have minimal tools but hope to acquire more as time goes on. God bless. Jerry Hawkins
Popular Post Gunny
Jerry, Welcome to TPW. You have come to the right place. We appreciate your service tom our country. Good to hear you have found a hobby, and a good one at that. Dealing with what happened in Iraq, you will find many of us have dealt with the same thing. If you need help, ASK!! Take some pictures of your work, post a project and get some feedback. Nobody is going to tell you it is worthless, anything you make is better than most who only talk about it. Drop in on the turners forum here: https://thepatriotwoodworker.com/forums/forum/28-wood-turners/ Lots of good tips, @lew post weekly a good tips / reviews / member work column that always has good stuff to look through and videos to watch. Popular Post FlGatorwood
Welcome, Jerry. You are not insane or weak. You are here among veterans and yes, woodworking is therapy. My wife has MS and Lupus, wheelchair bound and has CRS disease. It drives me crazy. Actually, you don't have to drive, just rattle the keys. As others have said, we love pictures and we saved a seat for you. Grab a cup of your favorite brew, there may be a donut or two around. Thank you for your service to our country from a Vietnam Navy veteran. Al B, Artie, HARO50 and 5 others 7
