Spice rack

Okay, I guess it’s becoming apparent that I ate FAR too many paint chips as a kid. The rabbet edges were made on a router table. The two notches (?) that are on the wrong side, were cut on the tablesaw, using a stacked dado blade. This is what got my feeble mind wondering what is the proper name for a groove/dado cut in plywood. The plies are perpendicular to each other so you are cutting with/across the grain at the same time. I still don’t know why one needs to differentiate between cutting a groove or a dado. It is the same saw blade/router bit, no?  Where the notch is cut on the edge of the plywood, I’m pretty sure it’s not a groove , or a dado. I haven’t returned to the spice rack yet.

...and it seems to have made good fodder for a lengthy discussion.  Thank you.

Stop drinking the finishing product's, or sniffing glue. You get more done that way.

That only makes the voices louder.

A dado is as a dado does. Leave the "back" dado in. It shouldn't affect it.

Yes it will! It will annoy the living you know what, out of me every time I open that cabinet door LOL. My smiley face stickers aren’t big enough to cover them up. :)

I hung the rack on the inside of a lower cabinet door. It didn’t hold all of me Missus’s spices. I don’t like it. You have to reach down to get them, and, well, I just didn’t like it. So on to spice rack version 2.0. This one is big enough to hold all the spices. I had to reconfigure kitchen a wee bit to get the wall space. Used 1/2 Poplar, with 1/4 BB for the backing. Also a picture of a small painting/finishing table I made.

Nice work Artie.  The lessons learned from V1.0 & 1.1 transferred to V2.0 I see:)

Looks good.   Why the dark blue color?

+1 with Cal.

Funny thing about space savers is you'll never realize the space you saved, its like a lost sock it just disappears. I made one that holds 40 jars & if I made it to fit 80 I know in my mind there will be no additional cupboard space. One of the great mysteries of life.

 But yours looks good Artie.

Kitchen space, like shop space and closets, never remains unfilled. It's the law of thermodynamics...or something.
