Well that sux!

Keep us up to date on how things are going. Maybe we can get you some easy projects. Guess this would be a great time to learn Sketchup!

Sorry to hear that Lissa, I hope that your hands return to normal after they operate. Hang in there Gal!.

Man Lissa! Just when you thought it was safe to get back at it! This gettin older crap is, well, gettin old aint it?

I hope you get better there, keep your chin up, you'll be back at it in no time! :)

Sounds painful, I hope all goes well for you in this surgery and you can get back to working with wood.  As I am not a doctor I had to consult the web to find out what this is.  For others wanting to know minus looking it up here ya go.

Ganglion cysts are noncancerous lumps that most commonly develop along the tendons or joints of your wrists or hands. They also may occur in the ankles and feet. Ganglion cysts are typically round or oval and are filled with a jellylike fluid.Small ganglion cysts can be pea-sized, while larger ones can be around an inch (2.5 centimeters) in diameter. Ganglion cysts can be painful if they press on a nearby nerve. Their location can sometimes interfere with joint movement

Had two on the back of my hand when I was a kid. Surgery the first time and burst it with a book the second time. Oh That is the treatment, burst the fluid sack and that is it . If it is accessible.

Hope you have a quick recovery with no repeat.

Have some fun with this.  When you go for surgery take a mason jar and tell the nurse you want the fluid.

When they ask why tell them it makes good wood glue.

We will do our best to give you lots of adventures, for you to live vicariously through. Hope all goes well.

Will remember the glue. Buhahaha!

Wishing for a speedy recovery, Lissa! Best to you!

Hope you get this beat Lissa, no fun being on the outside looking in...

So what is sketchup?

A  3D drawing program introduced by Google (later sold to another party, Trimble) that can be used to design (in our case) and dimension projects. It's lauded as being much easier to use than typical CAD programs, and best of all it was free when it was introduced. It really did take the woodworking world by a storm. Since it was bought out it went through some changes with Trimble that have given some of us a sour taste. The current version is an on line setup that generally viewed as not-so-good, though you can still get the older computer based version for free. We have some real wizzes with it here, they can explain it much better than I...

may have to check it out!

Lissa,

I would download Sketchup Make 2017. It is the last free version that runs on your computer. As @Fred W. Hargis Jr mentioned, there is a free version that runs over the Internet. It is currently not as comprehensive as Sketchup Make 2017. If you do download the 2017 version, burn it to a DVD. There is no telling when Trimble will pull this free version download. If you like the program, you'll have a permanent copy in case your computer crashes.

There is a learning curve but Sketchup has a tremendous community following. YouTube is filled with how-to videos and there are bunches of Sketchup forums.

Here's the link for the download- https://www.sketchup.com/download/all

Perhaps I am old-fashioned in that I like to draw things out on paper. I bought a 2x4x1/8 sheet of hardboard with one smooth side, a T square, and a roll of 18" wide white butcher paper. I lay out a sheet and draw the standard plan, top, and side views of my project. Full scale or half-scale allows me to see the reality of the plan. Its relaxing and I think about the various design choices as I draw. I also think through the machining and assembly process to avoid those things called "oops".

Glad to hear you are coming back strong, Lissa!  :Cheer:

hat

This is the closest to a "plan" I get.  :JawDrop:
