Goblets / wine glasses

Got given some Brazilian Cherry, Hard Maple scraps from a friend and asked to make some wine glasses for his collection.  Also took some dogwood out of storage and turned a nice base for a Goblet.  Been rather busy two weeks.

Those are fantastic! Does the one with the square shaped glass have natural grain patterns?

Yes it does. Piece at the base had a wicked crack so I cut it out and glued back. Hard to tell. Average person never know the difference. :D

I guess that practice makes perfect. You just keep getting better . I like the design on the right best

Think the next ones I do I am going to go more like that.  I made these handles for my files few years back.  Really like the design you get when you go at angles then turn it down.

Reminds me of the celtic knot some folks have done.   Nice work.

That don't look like my Celtic knots IMG_8394.JPG.42fa17f3dd3cb554ab879f0ecaf063ab.JPG

@lew is a master at turned celtic knots. His French rolling pins are just amazing.

Oh yeah!!! Have seen his post about how he does it and the jig he uses.  I have done on pens with my own jig. Success was decent but no where near @lew results.

@lew Gunny just got me interested in doing a knot on rolling pin. So what do you consider so be the best woods for the pins?

Gerald, I think maple is the best for the overall rolling pin. As for the knot, I've used maple, walnut and cherry. Walnut has a little more open pores but if the insert is pretty thin (around 1/8") it doesn't seem to hold onto any food. The very first one I made used maple and walnut inserts. I gave it to Mimi and she is still using it- at least 10 years old. The maple, walnut and cherry one I think are the nicest looking as far as color combinations.

Here is a picture of one that I DID NOT make but it got me started. Lots of colors but I didn't like the glue-up

A friend found it at a millworks. They were selling them. I guess they had lots of scraps of all kinds of wood.
