January 8, 20206 yr Popular Post Got given some Brazilian Cherry, Hard Maple scraps from a friend and asked to make some wine glasses for his collection. Also took some dogwood out of storage and turned a nice base for a Goblet. Been rather busy two weeks.

Really like the design you get when you go at angles then turn it down.

January 11, 20206 yr Popular Post @lew Gunny just got me interested in doing a knot on rolling pin. So what do you consider so be the best woods for the pins?

Gerald, I think maple is the best for the overall rolling pin. As for the knot, I've used maple, walnut and cherry. Walnut has a little more open pores but if the insert is pretty thin (around 1/8") it doesn't seem to hold onto any food. The very first one I made used maple and walnut inserts. I gave it to Mimi and she is still using it- at least 10 years old. The maple, walnut and cherry one I think are the nicest looking as far as color combinations.
January 11, 20206 yr Popular Post Here is a picture of one that I DID NOT make but it got me started. Lots of colors but I didn't like the glue-up A friend found it at a millworks. They were selling them. I guess they had lots of scraps of all kinds of wood.
