December 14, 20196 yr So Shopsmith has a sale on their Nova chuck system. Nova G3 lathe chuck with Shopsmith insert adapter and Nova pin jaws, also includes T-wrench, and wormwood screw. $180, $20 shipping, usually sells for $220 with the same $20 shipping. If I picked this up I would then need to get a hold of some more money in the future and see Jim about some Easy Wood tools, and then get me some safety gear and I could start learning on how to turn 2 x 4’s into toothpicks LOL. Don’t really have the $200, but could make it happen, I think it said the sale ends tomorrow night. So to all you SS users/owners just putting this out there in case you didn’t see it, and anyone with opinions on the Nova system, I’m all ears. John if this needed to be in the Shopsmith forum please put it there LOL
December 14, 20196 yr Artie and others, I have this chuck and I purchased back in the days when it was on sale for $140 plus shipping. It's the only chuck that I have for the Shopsmith, but it is a wonderful chuck since it is the only one I have ever used. It is well balanced, easily tightened and loosened. It is also easy to mount to the Shopsmith. Once you get the adapter, you can use any other chuck that accepts the 8/1 screw. If you can get the adapter, this is a much better price. https://www.rockler.com/nova-g3-insert-chuck?sid=V9146?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_content=pla&utm_campaign=PL&gclid=CjwKCAiAis3vBRBdEiwAHXB29JMrzFBVosI6GW18Ge_JDyYtgytfLIpSSGuhoi4aD600Y0anUKZ2RBoCu3QQAvD_BwE or you can go here and order each piece separately. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nova-ISNS-Chuck-Insert-Shopsmith-5-8-Plain-Bore/41749927?athcpid=41749927&athpgid=athenaItemPage&athcgid=null&athznid=PWVAV&athieid=v0&athstid=CS020&athguid=2e21dc36-961-16f02f5e2f24e1&athancid=null&athena=true You can also order for the same price as Rockler the chuck and the adapter and be set. I didn't check when the sale date ends at either site. I hope this helps.
December 14, 20196 yr Go for it Artie. Then, see if Jim has a lay away plan. Shopsmith doesn't. DAMHIK.

December 14, 20196 yr Geez with the adaptor and shipping it's only about $240.00 more than I can afford.

Ok once the current case against my ex is over I might consider changing my plan and move out that way. Edited December 14, 20196 yr by Woodbutcherbynight

December 14, 20196 yr When I posted on this, I meant to say the adapter is 5/8" bore with a set screw for shafts like the Shopsmith. The screw then is 1" X 8 tpi and fits many other chucks. I was surprised that you can order this from Walmart. Just look around and you don't have to order from Shopsmith. The adaptor is key to all this. Don't feel rushed as there are better prices. I like to support Shopsmith, but if I can find the same article for a cheaper price, then I do. Having said that, the ones I posted from Rockler and Walmart do not contain the jaws for pen turning. So, you may want to shop around for a Nova G3 chuck. Just remember, to get the adapter and you will be set. I was going to bed last night when I posted. I sorry it didn't make sense and it is not all orderly. I hope to see when you get the chuck and how it fits your Shopsmith.
