Glad to have you back, and with a lot of good news. Great that your wife has beaten cancer and now you have a bigger shop to play in.

For turning tools you might consider one of our sponsors, Easy Wood Tools . Not a turner myself so I'll let those in the turners forum offer more advice.

Having just test driven some new chisels from Easy Woods Tools, I promise it is money well spent.  Hit @Jim from Easy Wood Tools he loves to hear from us.  He got me set up in not time.

Welcome back and thanks for good news. What tools to buy ia a varied answer and I do not think starting with expensive tools is the answer as you will be spending 100 or more for just one tools where the HF set will give you several which once you get some experience your can re purpose to other uses. When you have some experience and want to upgrade then we talk about more expensice carbides, Thompson tools, Carter, D Way, Crown and maybe more.

One thing about carbides is that they can be a quick start but are not the answer to a one tool does it all. They tend to make you depend on them and not learn to use traditional tools which once learned will allow almost sandpaper free finishes.

I want to echo the good news about about your wife, welcome back!

Glad to see you back Ron, and thanks for sharing the good news regarding you wife.  And the shop...

Welcome back Ron!!!! Great to hear that your wife is doing great!!!

Welcome back, Ron.  Glad to hear the good news about your wife and your new shop.  I agree with Gerald about the tools.  I do like the carbide but I find I have to learn new ways to accomplish the same thing.  It takes me more time to think with the new ones of which I don't own, but have watched many YouTube videos.  Each type of tool has its place, but I need to stay with what I have learned as the 1/2 brain cell is just not that flexible.
