November 10, 20196 yr Popular Post I thought it amazing when guys come up with the line. Who might sells snowflake patterns???? Maybe a car parts store, naw, or maybe a furniture store? For some strange reason I went to company that sells woodworking plans, kits and supplies. There a few out there. Then after a few days you can have a house full of snowflakes without the water dripping all over the floor. These were plans I got out of a book but hey, Wooden Teddy Bear might have plans just for you... I would suggest as soon as you get those plans you buy yourself a printer, cheapest printer will make plenty of plans to keep you in snowflakes for many years to come.....Save the original plans you paid for and file away the original and all those sets of plans your new printer made and now you are all set for life making snowflakes..Oh, you will need to buy,,,,?? I don't know how much it cost now, Rapid Resizer is the program that helps you enlarge the patterns and flips some if need be.. I did some experiencing with some glitter and how to install it of the flakes...The easiest and safest way is use glue only.. You don't even have to put a clear finish on the wood. Chances are they will be inside only snowflakes so no they don't need a finish so dab a small amount of Aleene's all over the wood then using your finger just tap the glue down with your finger so it spreads out then before it dries, sprinkle the glitter all over the glue. If you want, after a few minutes you might tap the glitter just a little so it bonds better than just the sprinkling it on . Either way I can't tell the difference . It does seems to be bonding the gitter good enough for most of it staying on the wood... Why Aleene's, well it dries clear, where Elmer's and Titebond does not. On two of those showing I only put the glue and glitter only on the ends and left the flat areas clean. Glitter does not do good in a picture but hey the chrome or silver glitter shines big time...The flake with the pink glitter is only one piece and not 4 sided like all the rest of them..... but it does have much more glitter. I think the tapping down of the glue instead of spreading it out leaves little hills of glue and therefore the glitter will cause more angles of make of exposer? I feel my opinion is always the best...and its hard to argue since you have never installed glitter both ways so there. These flakes are about 4 1/2" and maybe if a person would make some smaller and some bigger would look great. Another reason for a printer and the Rapid Resizer program for enlarging and elongating and doing all those weird shapes a snowflake could come falling down from the sky. I made these using 1/8" BB and then stack cutting 6 pieces at a time is just about right for the scroll saw. I pre drill the holes and use thin finish nails with about 1/4" sticking up for my fingers to have something to push on to control the wood turning. I cut three pieces half in two and epoxied them to one flat piece.. Clear packing tape, Scotch brand don't leave hardly any sticky like duck brand does. Then spray some temporary glue on to the tape. install the pattern... then I pre drill four hole while spring clamps keeps the six pieces of wood in line then install the nails. By using a drill just a small hair a few thousands smaller than the nail. it will make it easier to remove the nails without busting the wood all to pieces.... been there and done that...I think you will agree the flakes with the smallest ends and lots of them looks more like a real snowflake.. I'll say this. My fisherman got all excited the first time he pulled up a big a big un but he didn't know what to call it especially since it was bigger than he was.. One flake made a boat load for sure.
November 10, 20196 yr Popular Post Very nice smallpatch, Here are some slightly larger ones I did a couple of years ago. These were painted with white craft paint with the sparkles already in the paint (no glitter spread)
November 12, 20196 yr @Wichman3 Do you set these up for a yard display? With your new truck display this would make for a festive yard.
November 12, 20196 yr Author I just figured out how to get the glitter showing better. I reversed the ceiling fan to pull the air up from the floor and it goes along the ceiling and makes the snowflakes move back and forth but the fisherman's boat moves more than any of the things up there, longer flat area I guess.

No, these were made for the Bosses wife. She is in charge of the decorating for a local charity fundraiser. Each time I make a project for her it gets added to the rotating display. The snowflakes got a lot of favorable comments.
