For those that haven't made the trip to my shop.   I needed to get a LONG plank down to the shop, today....might as well follow me around..

Plank?

Ceiling beyond the door is 7'.  So..pick up the plank a bit...(hand held camera, sorry) head through this doorway, and when you reach the back door...

Hang a right.   Just past the stove there is a doorway..

That has a couple signs..

While trying to swing the 9' plank around...open this door..

Yeah, yeah,, ugly, circled item is a "header" in more ways than one...if you are standing on the 4th step from the bottom, it will whack you in your shoulder..or worse

Scars from where the top of my head hit....

So, once you get by this point..hang a left..

Welcome to the Dungeon.   "drop" the plank, one end on the bench..

And one end on the trash can...

And we are about ready to do a bit of work...

Be sure to leave a few bread crumbs, so you can find your way back out...

I can relate!

I'm a little more fortunate, however. There's a small "lean in" basement window in my shop that can be removed for bringing in boards. Anything wider than 18" needs to travel a similar path as yours. Forget about bringing anything assembled back up the stairs!

Thankfully I have no dungeon shop.  Just open the double doors and in ya go.

Armor plated even!

Well that explains a whole lot now!

  • 1 month later...

@steven newman you could just add some foam to that header and at least slow the injury rate. If you had a window you could pass it thru that.

I'm sure that plank weighs more than 4 lbs. Just saying.

At least I got the plank to the shop..BEFORE the restrictions were put in place.

If nothing else, I can just let the planks slide down the steps...and pick them up later...

Ha Ha.... Try getting these down your steps into the basement.

If the house is ever sold you get the tools included ....
