I have never used BLO on any of my metal tools.  I used to use motor oil to impede the rust and everything felt smooth.  But, since acquiring my 2 Shopsmiths, I have learned that paste wax, not car wax, works very well on metal tools to slow down oxidation.  My axe, hatchet, hammer, wrenches and any other metal gets a coat of wax.  Even my saw blades get paste wax.  Everything works better with a good coat of wax that is buffed.  Once a year on most tools and a bit more frequently on some others.  Just my beginners thoughts.

I  use wax on most of my cutting tools and like it a lot.  It works well on my saw planes, planes, chisels and such.

I never thought to wax the saw blades and chisels. I'll try that. Thanks, Gator and Bundoman.
