Hand Planes, worth ?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have four hand planes that I

'd like to sell, but unfortunately I don't know much about hand planes. even the identification / model can be a job to figure out I'm finding out. I've had these since new, early to mid 80's I'm guessing, and never really used them. There is no rust on them, all in pretty good condition in my opinion. Two of them are Stanley's, and the other two are Sears, all of them were made in England. The Stanley bench plane is a 14", and the Sears bench plane is a 9". The Stanley block plane is a low angle, and the Sears is a regular block plane. Any idea of the approximate worth of these planes ? Or do you need more info ?

Wish I could help. Bought all mine at flea markets for $10 to $25.

Like Jess I got most of mine at flea markets or ebay. I would say maybe 25 on the low angle Stanley and 40 to 50 on the Stanley #5. The Craftsman 10 to 15 if you find a Sears collector. I have one #5 and will not make that mistake again. That is just my opinion of the price on a good day since these are planes with many more out there already.

Wow! Those look like the just came out of the box.  Whatever the price range is for those yours should be at the high end.

Ya, I was thinking about the same thing, around $125 for the four planes.

The younger generation seem to want nothing to do with them...

I see them selling cheap or nothing at all. My brother that sells

things at the flea market just bought 50 planes for $20.00 to

resale. Maybe this is just in my area...
