Rockler email today has a video on making a bent lamination chair and has a contest linked to it. It is a interesting process but labor and time intensive.

I've tried some laminated bending on a trellis top. It worked out pretty well, but really messy glue-ups. I also made some modernistic salad tongs using the same method. 

 

I did a little steam bending for edge bands on some larger trivets. If you try that, don't use PVC pipe for your steam chamber (don't ask how I know this!)

I have given this method a try couple of times, works okay but I agree it is very messy.
