Good Monday Morning!

Good Monday morning Patriot Woodworkers! What did you get done over the weekend, and what have you planned for the week ahead! Inquiring minds want to know. Please tell us what's happening in your shops, your life, and any events going on with you. Thank you for being here folks!

 

My weekend

Besides getting into the shop a little bit this weekend to work on my sons Cherry Desk, we also took a trip around the county with the family, me, mama and the kids all piled up in our car and headed out to the desert to consume some tasty Date Shakes, milk shakes made from dates of the palm. Our desert is full of farmers raising date palms and selling those tasty dates all over the world.

 

We dropped by one of our favorite spots on the way home, Lake Hemet up in our local mountains and walked around talked, and just had an easy time. Our youngest daughter is heading off to the Army, I can't believe how fast time has gone by, it feels like I just never got enough time with her as she grew up so fast, I feel that way with all my kids, just not enough time, it's almost a guilty feeling inside that there is just so much more I want to do with them, but they have grown so fast.

 

My youngest girl on my right is leaving for the Army by the end of next month, I am going to miss her dearly, my oldest girl is entering her last year of college this fall, and my boy is a big sophomore. Of course mama is behind the camera.

Derek's Harlequin Table: "The case is Hard Maple from the USA. The drawer fronts are Black Walnut, figured Hard Maple, and pink Jarrah (hence the name, Harlequin). The drawer sides are quartersawn Tasmanian Oak, and the drawer bottoms/slips were made from Tasmanian Blue Gum." ~Derek Cohen~

Going to get back out in the yard and get the tree trimming I started last week done.  Weekend was too hot to play that game so I goofed off.  Arms and shoulders were a bit overworked.  The rest period was great and I am ready to get back at it.

Two hours at the mechanic shop getting both sway bars replaced on the truck. Then, a hair cut. Plus a trip to the grocery for some vittles. My day is about shot. 

 Heading into the shop to exercise the scroll saw. Need to work on a design for a handicap ramp for my MIL to be built in the near future.

Anyone interested in some very unique and beautiful hand tools check out Derek's posts.  Well worth the time, you will be impressed.  Might even learn about a Frick and Frack jig.

 

Done with errands, tag office and supply run to keep deck refurb project moving forward.  Have the day off, all maintenance chores done for the week.  Might get a lot done.  Even the weather has given us a break, cloudy with a drop in temperature to under 95F.  Might only go through 3 shorts today.  

20 pounds of cans @ $0.42/pound =   Lunch money for one..

 

Monday about says it all...Boss' errands have been run....almost time for a nap....wake me up when Tuesday shows up...

Ford parts house sent the sway bars without the mounting bolts. I thought I was stupid! Gotta go back tomorrow afternoon. Didn't get the haircut, either. Too many ahead of me. Tomorrow after noon will work, though. So, I can get a few hours in the shop today and, tomorrow morning. Sure glad I'm not working to a deadline. Well, naps create their own schedules.

Pretty much Ditto!... Man has the yard got ahead of me.

We spent Saturday moving the older granddaughter into her dorm room at college.  She’s the first to fly from the next. Her two younger sisters (13 and 16) spent the rest of the weekend with us.   Shopwise, I’m working on a poplar shelving unit for my daughter-in-law.

Had a woodturners meeting Saturday, Security Sunday morning and then off to Louisiana for a friend who had surgery today and home tonight. Back into the shop tomorrow.

Great family photo John.  And you are right about the young ones growing up so fast...

 

My weekend was spent cleaning up and staging "stuff".  The wife is out of town this week and will be heading to upstate NY when her meetings end later in the week for a vacation to visit family.  We loaded her car with various items to distribute "up there".  As for me, I will be heading off to that Mecca of woodworking in America called "Ohio" this week.  I have rented a van and have a load of tools and other items to take to our son who has recently bought his first house.  I will be spending a few days to help out on a couple projects and visiting.

 

In other news, our kitchen remodel is ongoing.  The contractor came last week and hung drywall.  I got some painting done, and have a bunch of crown moulding painted and plans to hang it when I return.  Still working on the new cabinets, although that came to a halt while I helped the contractor last week and spent the weekend on other stuff.
