Bandsaw burning wood

Featured Replies

Anybody know why my band saw likes to burn wood? I am cutting 1 1/2 inch oak. I am using a 1/4 inch blade. Am I using too many teeth? Not sure of the TPI on the blade but I've attached a picture. Never had this problem with re-saw, only cutting a pattern. Any help much appreciated.

Take the blade off and clean it.  If it does it soon after replacing then it is tiome to sharpen or replace.

Just my 2¢ but I think it is probably pretty dull and maybe the "tooth set" is worn down.

A new blade might be in order.

I agree with the previous posts.

the band saw works just like my scroll saw. Change the blade and the burning stops. Then the next blade go with less teeth. Even 1 1/2" is not real thick wood but for that little blade to clear out the saw dust its too thick. Less teeth will have a wider set which will help keep the gap clear.

Thanks all. gonna look for a 3 or 4 TPI 1/4 blade. Hopefully that will do it.
