Gerald
I can do this with two gouges but do not think I could with carbide. Cal and FlGatorwood
lew
Those are beauties!! And, even easier with the new straight mini hollower. Edited June 18, 2019 by lew FlGatorwood and Cal
HandyDan
I have always made finials with the traditional gouges. May have to give the carbide a try and compare for myself. Cal, Gunny and FlGatorwood
FlGatorwood
He makes that carbide look easier, I would have used a normal roughing gouge to get the stock round, a narrow spindle gouge to make the concaves and a skew to make the onion. I am not that good with the skew making the tapered spindle. I know it can be done. But, to change to carbide is a very different technique. Since, I am self taught, maybe, I do it wrong to start.
