Hello all, so I’m Joe if the title didn’t give it away. Former Marine and currently medically retired disabled Veteran. I joke around a lot so be forewarned. I’ve found that having a hobby (/obsession) is important after service and woodworking is one of my favorites thus far. Though it seems right now tool repair seems to be the hobby that hopes to one day become a woodworking hobby! I love the idea that I can create something that will be useful for longer than I will. Things that can be passed on and hopefully a few that can be sold as well. One of these days I hope to at least be able to upgrade to Ryobi. Good luck and Godspeed.

Hi Joe, and welcome! As some have already said, there is a LOT of knowledge here. I’m still a question asker, long ways to go to be a question answerer LOL (unless it’s electrical, I be an electrician, I can usually answer those).  

Hi everyone and thank you for the warm welcome! I just finished the ugliest jewelry box on the planet (though my wife loved it) and am currently trying to finish up an ugly entry way coat hanging thing and a dog house. I figured I would shake off the cob webs by building furniture for the house and then move into projects to sell once I have perfected them. I do have one gem of knowledge, the DEWALT 7480 table saw will not safely take any dado stack. Couple hundred dollar lesson there!

That's a bummer. Time to break out that Ryobi router.

My first jewelry box. It’s amazing how many ways you think to do things better about 2 mins after it’s done! I built this with one 8’ 2x4, two hinges, eight screws, and a bunch of glue! I made two different sized blocks, stacked, and overlapped them. It doesn’t really show it in the pics but I had a guy mix my wife’s favorite color (purple) into a stain and contrasted it with black.

Thanks for the picture. Nothing wrong with that as long as you think you can do better on the next project... I only compete with myself and only worry what my wife thinks.....

@Woodpeckah, and the journey begins!!!!!!!! Thank so much for sharing your project image with us, we surely do appreciate that. Hand made, with a human touch, you done good sir.

Now, what's next on the project list?

Smallpatch I couldn’t have said it better myself. That is exactly how I look at my projects. I am a perfectionist so when I see it I know every flaw of my work, but that’s because it was a stick when I met it and actually made it into what everyone else sees. I am halfway through my next project but had to wait a few days until I get my replacement table saw in. It’s a mud room coat and shoe wall piece. Then it’s on to the dog mansion. Fortunately I was able to return my DEWALT and just saved up enough to get a small hybrid. The Delta 36-725 which I am going to get tomorrow!!! I can’t wait!!!!

Looks like I'm a bit late for the welcoming Joe. Glad to have you aboard. You'll find a great group of talented woodworkers here and everyone has a sense of humor so have a ball. I"m among the novices here, but I've learned a lot from the experts here.
