Popular Post HandyDan Posted May 12, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted May 12, 2019 Father of a friend died recently. She requested an urn for her key chain so she could put some of his ashes in. Since he was an avid hunter I used a 7.62x39 AR15 shell to make one. It is a steel shell which I spun on the lathe to sand it fine and then nickel plated it. I turned and polished a brass bullet and made a 1/4" threaded plug for the end. Added a small slip ring and done it is. The steel shell plated as easily as the brass shells did. lew Posted May 12, 2019 Report Posted May 12, 2019 That is fantastic! Did you crimp the bullet in place? FlGatorwood, HandyDan and Cal 2 1 Quote

I made the bullet a few thousands big so it was a press fit into the shell. Had to use my vise as a press to push it in. Edited May 13, 2019 by HandyDan DuckSoup, Cal and FlGatorwood 3 Quote

Smallpatch Posted May 14, 2019 Report Posted May 14, 2019 By golly Dan that's great... but you can forget the urns for I need to order a box of shells for my 357 piss- toll- a. I keep it real close to my bed but can't find the bullets and my wife keeps reminding me the gun is empty. FlGatorwood 1 Quote

FlGatorwood Posted May 15, 2019 Report Posted May 15, 2019 Fantastice idea and execution. BTW, I wonder if there will be a chemical reaction that will effect the metals. Anyone here specialized with the metals and ashes? Something that I don't know so mostly curious. Thank you. HandyDan 1 Quote

No chemical reaction if no water I would think. There are some dry chemicals that will cause deterioration to aluminum. Not a expert but have a minor in chemistry due to my profession. If you do have them come by for a look. FlGatorwood 1 Quote
