I hope you all find this series as interesting as I do. It's carpentry and more but, carpentry and more done at a craftsman level. Kinda like TOH on steroids.

Here is the play list to make it easier to follow.

This reminds me of Tommy Mac's episodes where he was building a new shop.  It was interesting*, but in the end we really didn't get to see much real woodworking in the new shop.  And the tools he was showing in the final couple episodes were more expensive than my house (well....).  Hard to relate when I next stepped into the garage, er, workshop.

*I will never understand house framing. I get confused by too many pieces.  <sigh>

Thanks, Gene.  This is fantastic as there are things that most folks never think of.  Wetlands, sandy soil, flood zones and such around here.  Now, as they progress with the structure of the house, it has to withstand winds of 140 mph.  Strangely, some of those houses built to recent codes don't withstand the winds.  And, it costs more to repair them as they codes get beefed.  When we had our stand alone garage built in 1998, they used metal straps to strengthen the headers above the windows and doors.  The building has withstood the winds and rains but that pecan limb took out a chunk.  :D

On this site, if it were here in this part of Florida, they would have to drive pilings to make it stable for the building.  There is much to think of when choosing a building site.  But, I can rest as I will never do it again.

I am in same boat but if money came into my hands I really see me building something like this.

So I’m not the only one that runs a whole daydream of what I’d do with a minor lottery score, in my head all day long?

Well not all day, but hey I get bored at work sometimes..

I was watching some show about abandoned cities and one named Caco, I think, had been abandoned about 20 years ago because the ground continued shifting.  It was a mountain top and much of the city remains, but a large part of it fell away in a landslide.  It makes me wonder about where I live now.  I do know that holes that I have dug in the yard it is hard dirt.  And, I think it was not filled with cut or hauled dirt.  I am really enjoying these follow ups.
