April 16, 20197 yr A Few years back I lost my Drafting table that I did all my art work on, in a house fire along with most of my wood working tools. Also the desire to create anything. I am now I am in a new home started to get back into wood working again. I am also wanting to get back into creating my art again. the old me coming back. What I need now is plans for a Drafting table. One that would fit a 30X36" desk top would be great. I have an Ideal what I am wanting but would like to see some ideals.

April 17, 20197 yr Popular Post Phil, long time ago I turned an existing desktop into a drafting table, I used some 5/8" ply and covered it in white laminate (formica type) cut it to the same size as the desk top and piano hinged it to the front of the desk, put two little collapsible legs on the underside, routered grooves on the existing desktop to act as stops for the legs to sit in, and voila! Also applied a strip of wood at the front of the table for a pen/pencil stop.

Go with the keep it simple solution!
April 17, 20197 yr Is this more of an art table (I'm thinking easel) or drafting table (hard pencil, ink, etc) rules, and parallels? Sometimes you can find countertops with hard laminate surfaces (we get them in all the time at our local Restore) and they are very reasonable in price. Then you only need a bit of hardware.
April 19, 20197 yr Author p_toad easel I have. I prefer to do my drawing on a drafting type table. I will be checking into the Countertops I sure I can find something like that around here.
April 20, 20197 yr I bought a 2x4 sheet of 1/8-inch hardboard with a smooth side. I align the 4' edge with the edge of my work table so I can use my T-square. I bought a roll of 18" wide white butcher paper for drafting. When I'm done, its easy to store out of the way. The prints roll up for storage in Christmas wrapping paper tubes.
