DeWalt Shelix head replacement

Artie, which size did you order?

Okay I give in.  Certainly glad to see people with money...I went through life penny pinching and I still do lots of second thoughts on most of the things I buy...The diesel pusher after I retired was one of the times I lost those thoughts....

I had a 735 and the noise was too much for me and I sold it and got a larger 3hp. Delta 15" planer. They no longer offer it, but I see where Grizzly and some other off shore brands are selling them,(The ones with the roller table fore and aft. But it was a lot quieter, This is before Helic cutters.. I lost it in the fire, and now I have a Cutech with a spiral cutter head(not a Helix ) and it is way quieter than my old 735.

Sound in db's increases exponentially,

Now this is my take after listening to what everyone had to say and some online research. The only two negatives about upgrading to the Shelix head, 1-the time to make the change-out. 2-The money to buy it. Now the negatives about going with the lightly smaller Shelix-depth gauge must be recalibrated, maximum planing cut is diminished, 3-possibly some snipe issues. The only negative with going with the OEM size-more time on the day of the swap-out. Now for me puttering around the shop is almost as enjoyable as making something, so nI went with the OEM sized one. I dunno if I’ll try to do a photo/blow by blow of the upgrade, but maybe? I would have to say that with my current schedule it could be May, before I can have a whole day to myself, to attempt this.

It took me about 6 hours. I used the video I Posted and, took it one step at a time, pausing the video after each step and, often rewinding it...showing my age, there. And that was after watching it twice before even putting the planer on the bench.

I’ll probably resemble that remark LOL.
