March 14, 20197 yr Popular Post I figure pi day will be a great day to talk to about pie safes. My wife has been wanting one and she likes this one that used to belong to my Grandma. It has seen better days so I thought I would try to recreate it using some wood from an oak tree that was downed by hurricane Katrina. This will be my first major woodworking project. I intend to reuse as much of the original hardware as I can. All i have to do is get some measurements, mill some lumber, figure out the joinery, and find some time to get it done. March 15, 20197 yr Those boards look like they are ate up with powder post beetles. Have you run them through a kiln or taken any steps to kill them? Are you a bow hunter?

They have a lot of bore holes, but the damage is localized to a few sections. They were kiln dried prior to me obtaining them. 25 minutes ago, Cal said: Are you a bow hunter? When i get the chance. I work offshore so time home can be limited. The one in the background is due for a tune up. Edited March 15, 20197 yr by Thad

This one may take a while. My current work schedule has been kinda chaotic. But, getting shop time is worth a little juggling.

March 30, 20197 yr Author Popular Post Sorry it took so long to update. I got a new toy that should help on this build. Plus, today I get to measuring and sketching out the carcass. I finally got SWMBO to tell me exactly what she's looking for. Turns out, she really wants a storage/display cabinet for her antique bowls. I'm thinking a simple six shelf cabinet with basically two sets of doors with three shelves each. Dimensions should be overall 72"hx34"wx12"d. How many of ya'll who do commission work have this hard of a time getting your customer (or wife) to tell you exactly what they want? I swear it's like pulling teeth to get any details out of her.

She'll tell you exactly what she wanted once you get it done and present it to her. Nice addition to the "family." Reviews I've read have have all been pretty good for this new model. Keep us posted on your review.
March 31, 20197 yr Author Popular Post The new planer works great. It takes a little time to make sure the input and outfeed tables are level and you need to make sure it is well secured but I must say, I'm really liking it. There is about 1"-1.5" of snipe on either end, but not as bad as I feared. I usually run em in a little long anyway, so, no big deal. With that being said, sometimes you just have to PLANE old do it..........
