March 3, 20197 yr Well guys, I've come to ask for help once again. I'm making a Catan game board and pieces, I need to create this joint 6 times so that all the pieces are interchangeable and interlock better. I was trying to make them by cutting the them with the scroll saw but then had to shorten the individual pieces and now the dovetail ends are no longer the right shape. I'd like to machine them with some sort of jig, have a tiny bit of play for the fit in the legs.
March 3, 20197 yr Wonder if you could use a dovetail router bit, router table and fence. Looks like all of the pieces have the dovetail at 90° to the edges. Maybe you could cut the pieces and gang them together then run them vertically through the router setup?
March 3, 20197 yr Author OI see what your saying Lew, thinking though in this soft pine thinking a rounded corner better for longevity and the little bit of play. Something like this?
March 3, 20197 yr I have seen that set of train track router bits in one of the catalogs that has a full round instead of an oblong round cut for a snap together joint. I likelews idea of ganging them up to route rather than one piece at a time. https://www.rockler.com/train-track-router-bits-and-free-plan-individual-bits https://www.amazon.com/MLCS-Train-Track-Bit-piece/dp/B000GG09R2 https://www.eagleamerica.com/product/vp18-3202/pc_-_router_bit_sets http://www.carbideprocessors.com/router-bits/grooving-router-bits/model-train-track-router-bits/ http://www2.woodcraft.com/pdf/77B36.pdf Herb
March 3, 20197 yr I think those bits Herb is referring to are the answer! I had never seen them before. The rounded shapes would definitely be "sturdy".
March 4, 20197 yr Here is another option to making the jig saw joint with the router. https://www.woodline.com/collections/route-r-joint/products/copy-of-route-r-joint-packages Herb
March 18, 20197 yr Wow, this is a cool idea. I love playing Catan, so I'll be following this with interest. Is this a replacement set?
