Sanding Raised panel endgrain

Featured Replies

I am making some hickory doors for cabinets with raised panels. I had my router bit sharpened and it did a good job, but the end grain needs to be sanded.

How do you go about sanding the end grain on raised panels?

I just sand it.   I'm a little confused at the question.

It would help to have the negative of the profile to  mount the paper on.

I suppose if  one is  a little nuts  one could make an exact profile with Bondo and wax paper.   It'd last a good long time.

Ya know think I'll try that.

If ou sand the long grain to 150 sand the end to 400.  Be careful not to round off corners or profiles.

You can use sand paper backed by fingers or a sponge that is weak enough to be easily depressed into the profile.

Also when you finish please consider dye for the first phase it will color uniformly the long and end grains.
