February 14, 20197 yr When installing a chuck never use the power of the lathe to snug up the chuck, just hand tighten firmly to a flush fit. Use of the lathe power will jamb the chuck tightly on the spindle and may be very hard to remove. Some will use plastic washers to alleviate this problem bu then introduce another problem, VIBRATION. Introduction of more items and possibly non flat items introduces a possibility of increasing vibration.
February 14, 20197 yr Great tip Gerald. I tried using nylon washers and had the vibration trouble. I switched to brass and did better. I use a washer only for a couple of my face plates that won't screw all the way on because of the alignment shoulder on my lathe.
February 14, 20197 yr Great tip! Thanks! The EWT chuck comes with a very hard spindle washer. So far I haven’t discovered any vibration
