PeteM Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 Any one tried putting a speed controller on a benchtop sander (e.g., belt or disk)? Quote
lew Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 I haven't. I wonder if it might take a special kind of device to control the speed of those types of motors. Quote

Dadio Posted January 14, 2019 Report Posted January 14, 2019 No ,Pete, it never occurred to me. Do you think that would sometimes help? I never use the one on my ROS, and don't have one on my belthander. HErb Quote
Popular Post Gene Howe Posted January 14, 2019 Popular Post Report Posted January 14, 2019 Adjustable speed on my 6X48 belt sander and on the 12" disk sander is very handy. Different grits get different speeds. Dadio, Stick486, HARO50 and 2 others 3 2 Quote

Herb Ditto GHF... The one I'm aware they have is listed as a speed control for routers. It (theirs or others) are NOT recommended for soft start or slow start motors. H-F specs list for motors 15 amps and under. I've considered one to use with my old school corded single speed 1/4" & 3/8" drills as well as a couple old Craftsman single speed routers; might be a little awkward to use for some applications but I can see benefits too. If the belt/disc sander is a bench-top (6"x 4x36) it probably is rated under 15 amps, but would want to verify first. The 8 or 9" disc, 6x42, belts probably are rated at or above 15 amps just guessing/ I definitely could see advantages on the belt side though. https://www.harborfreight.com/router-speed-control-43060.html p_toad, HARO50, Dadio and 2 others 5 Quote
