January 8, 20197 yr Changes at the top levels announced...likely part of the TTS purchase agreement. http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/management-changes-at-sawstop/?utm_medium=email Edited January 9, 20197 yr by Grandpadave52 fat fingered typo
January 8, 20197 yr Popular Post Well, first of all...Gass is apparently NOT leaving the company. I'll guarantee that nothing will change. I love the statement, "...SawStop is the world leader in table saw safety." While technically true, it is only because Gass has squashed, suppressed, sued, and decimated any innovations other than his own. People have short memories, but I still remember, that, he tried to force legislation for the government to REQUIRE his system be incorporated into other manufacturers products. Thank God he failed. I still can't get over how he screwed Bosch and prevented a much better product from being marketed here in the U. S. So, yah, SS is a leader, just not the best system available.

January 9, 20197 yr Popular Post Call me crazy but I expect the saw to turn on when told by the switch. None of this codes and such that can decide no I think something is wrong. I deal with that all day at work in automotive and have zero desire for my hobby equipment to give me the same trash when home. Safety is important, but my sanity has to be factored in as well. Those that like them, go ahead I am not judgmental safety is important and if this works well for you have at it. I just don't want one. 1 hour ago, Grandpadave52 said: if I had that sum of disposable money, a new Powermatic or Laguna would sure look nice. And I would own a Laguna BS and Festool would make a killing off me. Until I win the lottery (mind you I would need to purchase a ticket to do so) or have some wealthy relative leave me a large sum of money I will just work within my beer budget and dream about such champagne tastes.
January 9, 20197 yr Popular Post I suppose, if you are running a business, you do have to be concerned with safety. That said gASS will never see a penny of my hard earned money. What he did to Bosch, which is definitely a much better product, proved that safety was not his primary concern, It was and is all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Prices going up and already rediculously over priced. Edited January 9, 20197 yr by It Was Al B

Lots of good reviews on the 14/12...it'll do more than I'm capable of most likely...but yes, the 16HD is the "Rolls or Bentley"

Prices going up and already rediculously over priced. Totally true Al! If I owned a business I would be obligated to incorporate the SS into my operation. With that, said, as a safety professional for over 35 years, there are alternate, tried and true alternatives. I never had any of my people stick their fingers into the whirly things. They TOOK the responsibility, to not go home to their families minus a digit or two. I always believed in this mantra "what one man does, another can undo". You can only go so far with the machine...the real focus has to be on the users and their attitude towards how they perform the job. Shoot me if you will, but I am/was impressed with the quality of the first generation of SS. I just didn't like the destructive nature of the safety system and the possibility that one piece of wood, with the wrong moisture content, and you were looking at a couple of hundred dollars in lost tangible and intangible costs. Yes, I do understand intangible costs! I wasn't willing to accept this would come out of MY wallet. The quality of the latest saws is starting to diminish and the price is increasing. Why? Loss/saturation of market, greed, what? It is obvious, that, as Stick would put it, the bean counters have stuck their fingers into the pie. This is becoming a win/lose situation for the customer. SS makes more money, the consumer gets a less robust piece of equipment for more money. I was excited when Bosch marketed the REAXX. It was a great alternative with little or no destructive loss. It didn't, immediately, put you out of business. The cartridge was good for another use, was not as expensive to replace, and the saw blades were, theoretically, not damaged. It was less complicated and simpler to use than the SS system. Unfortunately, Gass successfully, drove it off of the market here in the US. I'm not in a position to second guess the courts, but we, the consumer were the losers in that decision. I always, said, that I wished Bosch made a cabinet saw. One with the REAXX system would be outstanding. Yes, Al, you are totally correct. It is NOT about safety, it is about GREED. If Gass was a true altruist he would have worked with other manufacturers instead of trying to force his system on the public. Whether or not Bosch infringed on his patents, and I'm not thoroughly convince they did, he should have worked out a mutually beneficial deal with them. Instead, he squashed the system and eliminated all competition. Once the SS market has been saturated and there is little or no demand the patents will prohibit innovation until they expire. That is NOT a win for the consumer. Edited January 9, 20197 yr by schnewj
January 9, 20197 yr Popular Post You all have said it all about gASS and I'm in total agreement. Hopeully Bosch still has some engineers and lawyers working on a solution.
