Had a bit of Holiday Cash to spend.....headed to an Antique Mall in Springfield, OH.....called the "Heart of OHIO".....and spent a few hours walking around....turned down a Stanley 45, type 2/3....was "only" $200 + tax.....

Spent about $15 + tax for two items...

$8 for the Keen Kutter No. 104, 10" sweep brace...handle had a dab of black paint..

Wood is Walnut.   The two metal bands are Pewter....fancy chuck..

Able to use even normal twist drill bits...gives me two such chucks....Millers Falls also had this chuck...for the 1050-1054 series..

The other half of the pickings?

Turned down an all-metal one, because it was missing the bolt in it's handle....the bolt on this one?

Interesting....Compared to the one I have been using...

Methinks the lever one is a Stanley...the newest one is a smaller version of..

At least these look better than the others in the til...

"Plastic Fantastic.."   I'll stick with the wood ones.

There are at least 8 bays in the place...along with display cases down the middle of the aisles...plan for at least 1/2 a day just to walk around in the place...

Was a nice day....

Sweet finds. Can't say I've ever seen a Keen Cutter brace around here...maybe more regional in sales or use??? Same for the chuck style. Try a little Simple Green or LA's Finest and green scotch brite on black paint &/or an old razor knife blade.

I've never seen an adjustable bevel square like your latest. Angle on the blade is certainly different but not nearly as much as the slide bolt nut. That's got to be a last quarter 19th Century model????

I have one like the "lever" model except the bolt, lever, and wear plates are all steel vs brass. Can't quite make out the name on it, but me thinks it's Stanley too? I was guessing 40's since brass was pretty rare then due to war effort. Your's probably is 20's to late 30's??

Have one identical to the 46-825...gave a couple bucks for it. Late 70's (19 that is:P) to late 80's based on the dark blue color???

Keen Kutter was a E C Simmons brand name...out of St Louis

One of my 6" sweep braces has the same chuck....and has the Keen Kutter logo....even though it is a Millers Falls No. 1054.

Plastic handled ones are a black plastic.  HAD a red version for a while...Handyman?

Lever one uses a steel bolt.

Mine's definitely dark blue; not really a navy blue, but dark blue. Red one probably was a Handyman...haven't seen one of those in the wild either.

Only 200?   I hope you told them you couldn't buy it since they didn't have one for each hand...  :throbbinghead:

There was also a Bailey No. 20  compass plane....only $245 + tax....:JawDrop:

When I see rusty Dunlap planes going for $50.....for a plain old #4....somebody is smoking something:ChinScratch:

Need to clean up today's little find....Stanley tri-square, two patent dates stamped in the rosewood handle.   $5+tax.  J.P Umholtz was the owner....7-1/2" along the top edge of the blade.

Pictures when I get it presentable to polite company:rolleyes:  .....leaves this bunch out, don't it?:DevilLaughing:

Roh-kay...a quick clean up...

Two patent dates, and Mr. J. P. Umholtz.....

Even stamped his name on this side....Brass strip is a "T" shaped thing,  blade is inlet into the T.

Was thinking this looked familiar....

Fingergrip one has Stanley stamped out on the blade, with the newer patent date...Numbers on it count back towards the handle...at least on this side.

Not too bad of a day...

Sweet...definitely pre-war...maybe even pre WWI?

One can never have enough squares;)
