Aluminium Frame for porch enclosure

Featured Replies

Hi All, My Family & I bought a house last year after months of hard work and saving our dream was finally come true. Our home 2 story building with 3 bedrooms. There is a covered back porch with a concrete floor and a fully finished roof. I want to screen it in and add an exterior screen door to it. Are there kits you can purchase that will make it easier? I would like to use aluminium framing and attach the screen to that. Maybe add a 2x6 to bolt it to the concrete floor, and frame out the door opening. I would rather not use wood, as I have seen in the past. I am fairly handy with tools. Did anyone take this on before? I have contacted a local porch enclosure company have you people heard about it

Hello Cliff and welcome to TPW..

Can I suggest you skip the 2x6 and use a ''C'' receiving channel...

4 Steps to Building a Screened Porch:

Install the "C" Receiving Channel to perimeter..

Install 2x2 framing into the "C" Channel..

Install intermediate vertical 2x2 or 1x2 supports..

Install Screening with spline rolled directly into framing..

now for the options..

Add a knee wall/kick panel..

add a door(s)../kick panel.

you can order precut kits..

here's some general information..

Welcome aboard Cliff, and congratulations on the home ownership!

Welcome to The Patriot Woodworker Clifford. Congratulations to you and your family on the purchase of your new home.

Stick has given you some good information to begin your enclosure journey.

Pictures always help. Keep us updated on your progress and how else we might assist.

I would suggest 2x2 metal square tubing but you would have to have a way to cut it then to weld it. I do all the outside decking walls and roofs with metal. Aluminum would be better but way up there in price also...Metal primer on metal last a very long time, in years, with no top coating over the primer...is the advantage of using metal. I know it holds its shape better than any wood you could buy..
