What to do for a back

Featured Replies

Not sure what I want to do for a background. I normally use black 99.9% of the time but think this might look better with some color behind it. What do you all think?

Fantastic piece Rusty...Beautifully done...Thanks for sharing.

While black gives the shadow and depth you might desire, I agree somehow black doesn't seem appropriate for this piece. Are you planning any finish on this piece itself?

As for a specific color, I'm poor at that, but you might buy some packages of colored paper (standard weight &/or construction) to experiment different background looks.

Wal-Mart, Staples, Hobby Lobby, Michael's etc. have all types that can be purchased in small quantity, multi-packs and in some cases single sheets.

I'd be curious to see how it looked with a gloss gold or silver or perhaps weathered bronze background...seems fitting for the subject matter IMO.

Rusty your work is beautiful. Take into consideration where you going to place this. I did a piece similar to this and just placed a sheet of white paper behind it to make it stand out. Now it just hangs on a lite colored wall.

Thanks. I will just shoot the piece with a clear to keep from getting dust inside the frame. I am thinking about using many colors behind it. It doesn't seem like it will be very easy.

Rusty, I am very partial to dark red or Burgundy for work like this, with the lighter tone in the wood, I think a dark color would still be preferable, but not black, great work!

Rusty, that sure looks nice. As for what color for a backer I don't know. I think anything will look good, just pick out what you like.

There is also some "plastic" or film that looks like a stained glass window that might work.
