bandsaw blades

Featured Replies

I was looking at bandsaw blades on line from Suffolk machinery. It has been over a year since I've purchased new blades but is seems there has been somewhat of a spike in prices since my last purchase. I am also looking for advice concerning which blade to use. The max width to fit my Craftsman 14" is a 1/2" blade. Which blade will produce a good clean cut on materials up to 8" thick. I was considering 6 TPI but thought I'd check here before making my purchase. My 10 TPI blade tends to clog while cutting birch.

Al, my experience is very limited with BS re-sawing simply because my old Craftsman 12" has a maximum capacity of 6". It really doesn't do a great job either but could be the blades. When I bought it used several years ago, it came with several NOS Craftsman blades which I'm still using but about out now.

While not one of our sponsors, I've been thinking of giving one of Highland Woodworking's Wood Slicer blades a try. Reasonably priced and seems to get good reviews by real experts (I'm definitely not that).

There was also some great discussion here Al...

I just got my Laguna blade 105"X 1/2"X3 TPI

I haven't tried it yet, But it looks good. The wood slicers work good for me over the years,1/2"X 3 TPI. but I liked the

They seem to last longer, and give a nice smooth finish. They are available on Amazon.

I have read a lot of good about Highland Woodworking's woodturners blades but have yet to try them.  Timberwolf"s blades have been getting some bad reviews lately.  I have heard a lot of good about the Lennox blades too.

For some reason my links don't work, have to cut and paste

I've "hearing/seeing" the same to both also Dan. Some positive reports on Starrett BS blades also. Kind of weird how they list the lengths though...feet + inches...like for mine, 80" = 6'8" blade...competitive prices. One outlet is MSC, but I think Woodcraft carries some now too. Not carbide though...

I can't fix your original post Herb, but they will work now from this post. Thanks...

Looking forward to your feedback on the Laguna...they're pricey, but all independent reviews I've seen on them rate them as one of the best available with long life cycle. Not to mention they are one of our sponsors.

Too bad you can't take 3" out of this then it would fit. Very generous offer indeed.

That is plan B if no one wants it I will take it to the saw shop and have them resize it down to 105", that will cost around $15.00 plus a 60 mile round trip. If I had toget some blades sharpened, I would do it right now, but I am good for sharp blades too.

If you're resawing, the 3TPI is the one you want. More teeth allows sawdust build up resulting in heat...lots... and can cause bowing of the cut.

As to brands, Lennox has given good service for me. Shopsmith blades are excellent but only 72" long. Wish I knew who made them.

Any brand with 3 or 4 three per inch.. I've used lots of brands but the Grizzly's I'm using right now seems to work just as good! I think its has more to do with how the machine is set up than what blade you choose.

Thanks everyone. Still haven't bought a new blade but the 3 TPI sound like what I need. My 14" Craftsman uses a 99 3/4" blade.

UPDATE; I just ordered the Laguna 3 TPI X 1/2" re-saw blade $29.99 with shipping

Where did you order it from?

Well, doggone it. They can't sell me a 1/2" X 72".

The carbide blade wasn't available for mine either. The PRO Force and Shear Force are available in the 72" length

They may not make that size in carbide.

Try Lennox:

Seems like they don't sell carbide tipped either, this is a carbon steel one.

Didnl't JohnM say they will make any length?
