I have turned some Box Elder before and the small piece I had was beautiful. This picture highlights just how beautiful it can be

 

I agree! I have some, too, and it has some gorgeous colored streaks. 

I have some box elder my chair making buddy Russ Filbeck gave me for spoke shave handles, to small logs about 4" diameter, very cool pieces. Now I just need to make my shaves!

Oooohhhh...so nice. How big is that cookie? 

I made this box from sage brush cookies. I'm drooling while imagining using box elder cookies instead.

Very nice Gene. Is that turquoise powder mixed with the resin?

I'll have to start saving some from the trees I'm taking down for firewood. Around here they are considered weed trees.

It is crushed turquoise, Dave. Though, with something as colorful as box elder, plain black would be better, I think.

Maybe, but it certainly was the perfect choice on that Sage. I like it, ALOT!

How thick were (are) the cookies? What was the backer you used? BB-ply?

That's a generous offer Larry, but I can't even get to my little log I have now! Been sitting there for about 6 years.

Exactly. IIRC, the cookies were 1/4" as was the BB. Well, whatever the metric version of 1/4" is.

It would have to go freight, FedX, and OOPS have size/weight limits.
