I have never even thought of turning a pine cone. I saw this picture and was amazed. I think It looks like most of it is 2 part epoxy.

Anyone ever turn one?

Never tired one of these.

Looks like it would be a great gift for a Forest Ranger!

Made to spray paint....  now used commonly by turners to cure resins and acrylics under pressure to remove bubbles

You can do it in a pressure pot or vacuum chamber. The pressure pot is cheaper and easier. I use a pressure pot but might try using my pressure pot as a vacuum chamber with my vacuum chuck.

I don't make pens and such anymore for slushy funds.  Market is there, my desire to deal with it has diminished.  :D

But I thought I'd take a glance and so I looked at cost for this.

Blank =$10

Pencil kit = $4-$10  depends on what kit you like, lots of options, gold, chrome, pewter, gunmetal

So roughly you could have up to $20 in parts before you fired up the lathe, drill press, etc etc.

Buy one at a show, I would guess $35-$65 each.  Might find some on Etsy or Pinterest?  I never sold any online, was busy enough with word of mouth at the time.

Is there anybody selling online. I like the thin led pencil. A trim carpenter I know was going to make me one out of deer antler, but I quit that job before it evolved....

I can hook you up with a set of these.  Pen and pencil set made from Zebra brand pens and pencils.  See link below.
