Popular Post pdexter Posted October 3, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted October 3, 2018 Here is one of my relief carvings. The pattern was graciously given to me by a carver in Canada. It is the first relief carving I did. The pattern is a station of the cross "when Jesus meets His Mother". p_toad, Gerald, Harry Brink and 9 others 10 2 Quote
Grandpadave52 Posted October 3, 2018 Report Posted October 3, 2018 Beautiful piece. The detail is amazing especially the emotion shown in their faces. Well done. With a piece like this it becomes the Maker yet had a purpose and mission for you here. Thanks for the post. DuckSoup and Cal 2 Quote
pdexter Posted October 3, 2018 Author Report Posted October 3, 2018 Grandpadav, it was inspired by my near death experience in 2010. I'm Catholic and Mary is very special to me as a result of my experience. So, yes, the Maker is in the drivers seat! Cal, schnewj and Grandpadave52 2 1 Quote

I suppose one could choose that view if so inclined...I personally see it as a deeply inspired artist who understands the depth for the motivation and purpose of the creation and desires to share such. But I'm no art critic nor formally trained in that discipline so it's plausible I missed the mark. Regardless, it's a great piece IMHO with a great story. p_toad, HARO50, DuckSoup and 2 others 5 Quote
Popular Post pdexter Posted October 3, 2018 Author Popular Post Report Posted October 3, 2018 I did not intend any debate into theological ideas. You are correct in assessing my motivation. So I'll just quote Paul: 1 Cor 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Do everything to the glory of God. Including carving wood. May God richly bless you and your endeavors. Harry Brink, DuckSoup, Cal and 1 other 3 1 Quote

Gerald Posted October 4, 2018 Report Posted October 4, 2018 That is some great work. Carving faces and figures is not in my skill set. Did you put these pics in the Gallery? pdexter and Grandpadave52 1 1 Quote

All of them are beautiful. Cal and Grandpadave52 2 Quote

Only the beauty of the finished product. I shouldn't have the right to complain if you carved a cat, just because I may not like cats. I believe most or all of us would not be offended by this type of subject matter. What is most important is the passion and talent that the artist displays in the finished product. Beautiful display of your talent, Nick. Especially, as your first attempt. Cal, Grandpadave52, HARO50 and 3 others 5 1 Quote
