Popular Post Ron Altier Posted September 21, 2018 Popular Post Report Posted September 21, 2018 Blue and white ply can be tricky to turn and has defects in it. It also bleeds color and the blue made my glue turn blue. It chips out when you don't expect it and it looks like it changes colors as you slowly rotate it by hand. None the less, I finished it. Gerald Posted September 21, 2018 Report Posted September 21, 2018 I do like the color of this one. You must have a bucket full of ply cutoffs. FlGatorwood 1 Quote

It is a bigger challenge and when done, don't look good. I'll see if I have a picture of what I turned, prob tossed it. FlGatorwood and Dadio 1 1 Quote
hawkeye10 Posted September 22, 2018 Report Posted September 22, 2018 That is beautiful Ron. I have not heard of blue ply or any other color ply. FlGatorwood 1 Quote
Cal Posted September 22, 2018 Report Posted September 22, 2018 I have not heard of blue ply either Ron, but that is gorgeous! And I think the glue turning blue just adds to it. What do you finish it with? FlGatorwood 1 Quote
Ron Altier Posted September 22, 2018 Author Report Posted September 22, 2018 Rocklers and Woodcraft both carry a large supply of multi colored wood and acrylic blocks. Both in sizes for turning pens and larger ones for other turnings. After sanding and using 0000 steel wool, I use Hut friction finish. After it drys I spray with Rustoleum 2x clear spray. The spray tends to fill the tiny holes that the ply sometimes has. FlGatorwood and Cal 1 1 Quote
Gene Howe Posted September 22, 2018 Report Posted September 22, 2018 Thanks for the Rustoleum 2X tip, Ron. I'll be trying it. FlGatorwood 1 Quote
