Filling holes

Featured Replies

I don't know if this belongs here but it is about turning. I am finishing a piece (colored ply) and it has tiny tare out holes. What finish would you use to fill them? (or tiny cracks) I normally use HUT friction finish.

Thanks

Tear out should be turned and or sanded correctly to remove it.  Light cuts with a freshly sharpened tool and then sand.  Filling tear  out leaves it looking like. . . you got it. . . filled tear out.

Flaws become design elements. Fill with colored epoxy resin and, turn or sand it smooth.

Just don't go across grain and you can do about anything to make it look like it was a planned process..

Show us what you have come up against for your question.

I chose to cut cross grain to achieve the look I wanted with colored ply & with sharp tools. The tiny holes are not serious, however I'd like them to be filled. I know that if I apply multiple coats of finish, it will be smooth and invisible as I want. I just wanted to know what finish works best with the fewest applications.

The question is "What finish would you use to fill them?"

How about CA in the holes, then finish with your finish of choice.

Gene beat me to it. Since your are clearcoating it will not even show

Great minds Gerald...great minds.:D

In the holes that I need filled I use Walnut sanding dust and glue.

I have coffee cans full of different kinds is sanding dust from different

woods just for this.
