I'm from Ohio and I wondered why I have never heard of any one using Buckeye wood in any project. George Washington loved the tree because of the flowers. Of course there are the Ohio State Buckeyes. After a bit of research I quickly found out that the way Michigan Wolverines describes a buckeye is true. "a poisonous nut on a worthless tree"

Seems everyone prefers to use the acorn tree.

Buckeye trees are a lightweight wood.

When I was a kid, we would collect the buckeyes and make things out of them, never knew they poisonous. Then when I saw my first Chestnut (as in Mel's Chestnuts roasting over an open fire) I wondered why we didn't eat them.:)

Yesterday, in a Peter Engler design studio in Branson, we saw a live edge buck eye burl slab made into a table. It was sorta arc shaped, about 40" long and, in places, maybe 20" wide. Rather light in color...like red oak...with real dark inclusions. Very striking. Steel hair pin legs. $1800!

That means the table doesn't exist! Just a figment of Gene's imagination. :(
