Kitchen Back Splash

Featured Replies

My wife has finally found tile for the kitchen back splash which she believes she can live with.  She did not want subway tile nor glass mosaic.  That accounts for 98% of what is on out there for sale.

My wife was wanting to have a 1/16 grout gap between the tile.  It is my understanding that matching caulk is used between the tile and the counter top and between the tile and the wooden refrigerator panel.  What gap is commonly used in these locations when 1/16 gap is between the tiles?

I appreciate your help.  Thanks in advance.

aesthetic to the tile...

most seem to be 1/8 to 3/16''..

if you want a 1/16'' grout line...

tile caulk the open horizontal and vertical edge of the tile that is already set...

set a new tile and immediately clean the grout line...

use unsanded tile caulk...

often a short piece of paper match, in line w/ the joint, is used as a spacer and left in place to prevent the tile from creeping.....

How do you keep clean or clean such a rough surface?

Weekly? Daily? Spray on a solution of water and dish soap. Use a brush that will reach the bottoms of the voids. Respray with clear water to rinse. Use a heavy nap towel to dry. Not a surface I'd want near a food prep area.

Ceramic tile seems to be popular again, I am old fashioned , P-Lam easy clean and durable.
