Corner Chip in Granite Counter Top

Featured Replies

Has anyone here had any experience repairing small chips in granite counter tops? I have a corner that is missing about a 1/4" section off the top corner. It's rough to the touch, not too noticeable, but it needs to be repaired, how do I repair this?

Thanks guys!

If its more or less a solid color I would use JB Weld  with streaked colors mixed in or if its kinds see through clearer I would 2 part epoxy. I would also find things about the same colors to add to the epoxy.

First question (unless i didn't read carefully enough) - do you have the chip?

You have options to re-build that corner (no, it won't be granite unless you have jewellers or minerologists grinding equipment to polish up a new piece), but you can also simply wet grind it to an angle and polish over.   Either one is a bunch of work, but can be done by you at home without super expense.

Thanks for the suggestion Jess! I love JB weld, it's kind of the duct tape of the compound repair world! Thanks sir.

Thanks Peter, the chip flew to another part of the house when I whacked it with the bottom of a water glass, ya that's right, glass vs granite, and the glass won, go figure. I could grind it down, it's just a small little chip, I think Lew hit it on the head though, the compound may be the way to go, looks easy to do and less labor, I love less labor.:)

My first though was to just sand it down to flat at the corner, just so it does not feel jagged and polish it smooth, but the liquid inject tube that Lew found looks like it'll work.

Thanks all for your help and replies.

Please post the results and recommendations up after you've made the repair John,

Cal
