December 3, 20178 yr Popular Post Every year for the past five or so years at Christmas time I make a couple dozen ball and cup games. I take them over to the local Akron Children's Hospital and give them to the volunteers to pass out to the children who have the misfortune of being in the hospital at this time of year. I figure even if confined to the bed they may still be able to play the game. Here is this years batch completed today. I use pine 4X4s to make them but I buy the balls at Pat Catans craft supply store. They have three coats of Shellac on them.
December 3, 20178 yr Those are beauties! The kids and parents will certainly appreciate what you have done.
December 4, 20178 yr Thanks and blessings to you Dan for giving your time and talents in such fashion... Exemplifies the Spirit and meaning of Christmas. And you are so right, Christmas in a hospital is rough for any age, but especially children.
December 4, 20178 yr I'm sure they will bring smiles to the faces of the children who get them Dan. Nicely done
December 5, 20178 yr Great thing you are doing my man....I bet there will be a lot of happy faces. Good work with the lathe and finish.. You might do a little better on the string next time!!

December 5, 20178 yr Hey since you are making the string also, why not make it red, white and green striped for the holidays colors... We use to make our own string for our tops which was before nylon came along but there was only white back then. Just thinking out loud on what would make those more special but they already have your special signature all over them!!!! And the girls would want something prettier than what the ole boys get!!!
December 5, 20178 yr Author I use a standard three strand wind from the store. I tried the nylon yellow mason/marking string but it doesn't hold the twist well when the ball gets to spinning.
