High Chair Christmas Present Finished

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Child's high chair from an older issue Woodsmith magazine as a Christmas gift to some new grandparents/parents. The original plans have this as a "knock-down" unit but I made it permanent. Made from hard maple (walnut plugs). Water based poly finish (thanks for the advice on raising the grain). Tray is removable/adjustable and it has a seat belt. This is the second one of these I've made.

Already delivered and to my amazement, it seemed to fit the size of the child!

Thanks for looking!

Nice, Lew! Clean lines, looks real sturdy. Love the step front! That should be around for SEVERAL generations.

John

That's NICE!

Nicely done...big-thumbs-up-smiley-emoticon.gif

Looks great and I'm sure it will fit many other children as the years go by,

I forgot to ask  you how you made the recessed area.

Your flat-work rivals your turning excellence!

Very nice indeed!

The front step(s) is a great feature for this design.

Very nice Lew.  Love the finish too.

make ya wanna be really young again..

Great piece Lew!

Cal

John- Thank You! Hope it gets some use.

Gene- Thanks!

Fred- Thank You!

Ron- Thanks! The recess was made with a template. and a router. The template outlined the "juice" slot. I used a core bit to cut that. Then removed the template and used a 1/2" straight cutting bit to nibble away the center. Lots of scraping and sanding to finish it up.

Dave- Thank You! Eventually, I guess she'll be able to use the steps.

Dan- Thanks!

Stick- Thank You! Young again?? We all start out in diapers, strapped into a chair and being hand fed and we usually end up that way !

Cal- Thanks!

Patch- Thank You! I'm trying my best to stay out of trouble- not easy :D

The new owners sent Mimi a picture of the chair in use. Looks like it's about the right size-

Looks like you have a VERY HAPPY client:lol:

...and that's why you do this thing called woodworking!

Sweet~!!  does it double as a step stool too?

Thanks, Cliff! I never thought about the step stool but it probably could.
